Isabel do Los - Painter and Poet
Name: ISABEL DO LOS
Place of Birth: Maputo, Mozambique, 1952
Fine Arts Course at the Antonio Arroio School - Lisbon, Portugal
Inebriate with Colour
Maria Isabel Ribeiro da Silva Pinto is her birth name. Born in
Mozambique, Africa 49 years ago, where she had a childhood and
adolescence rich in experiences. So deep and intense were these
that they left an indelible mark on her personality. Extroverted
and equipped with a natural curiosity in relation to all that
may touch the human spirit, she considers herself to be someone
for whom the impossible is always possible.
The rebel and the conservative blend in her, confounding at times,
those who may happen to know her.
With a strong love for colour, it is in colour nonetheless that
she envisions the future of the world. It is one more of the characteristics
she has inherited from the land saw her see the light of day.
The warmth, the aromas lingering in the air and the colours that
paint her birth landscapes have heavily influenced the work she
puts down on canvas. She has become the painter of joy.
The vibrations of a past life within the present mark her everyday
life, always. One might say that they are the pulsations of her
restless, non-conforming almost naïf spirit.
She has adopted the Isabel do Los as her artistic name. Los
is Sun read backwards in Portuguese. This demonstrates how the
light of her native country is important, even essential to her.
She favours an abstract style as she feels that the world we live
in does not satisfactorily recreate what goes on in her soul.
Isabel do Los prefers to recreate, reform, transform objects and
landscapes into what she envisions as being more beautiful, dignified,
candid and respectful for Man.
