"Dei Volta"
Tony Camara was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He
was introduced to the world of music at a very early age. In fact,
one week after he was born he was using a guitar case as a crib.
Throughout his childhood, Tony would travel with his parents and
watch them perform for the different Portuguese Communities of
North America.
Tony first live performance took place when he was just five
years old. Since then, he has come to perform live for audiences
in Canada, United States, Azores and Bermuda. Besides his career
as solo artist, Tony has been a member of several bands.
He was raised in a very Portuguese household where he heard the
Portuguese music that was so to influence his musical adventures.
In these, Tony has crossed paths with some of the most famous
name of the Portuguese music milieu, people like Carlos do Carmo,
Paulo de Carvalho, Alcindo Carvalho, Fernando Machado Soares,
Father Borga, Carlos Alberto Moniz, Carmen Silva, Lindo Mar Castilo,
Fontes Rocha, Herminio Arruda, Celeste Rodrigues, among others.
Among the highlights of his career are his live performances for
well-known figures of the Portuguese political and state arenas,
among them Dr. Jorge Sampaio, Victor Cruz and Jose Lello.
Furthermore, his adventures in the music world brought about
the opportunity to record his first work titled Coimbra in which
he exclusively sings Coimbra fado. Due to Tony's great love for
this unique Portuguese musical genre, he has dedicated the last
four years of his life to singing fado.
Now we have Tony Camara and his latest CD, Dei Volta.
Despite having a full-time job, Tony always finds time for his
music, which is a major motivating force in his life. His enthusiasm
for Portuguese music and culture has been a major contributing
factor to his personal evolution, and to which the fact that he
now composes his own music and lyrics in Portuguese attests. This
can be heard in the themes Quem me Dera Dançar Contigo,
Usado Por Ti, Sentado Esperei Por Ti and Vaidosa included
in this his latest album. His love for the Portuguese culture
and guitar are quite evident in Arrematações
do Espírito Santo, also included in this collection.
Tony Camara has found a place for himself on
stage, from where he has come to capture the attention of the
audiences for whom he performs. Tony's musical taste is quite
diverse, hip hop, rock, fado, blues, rhythm and blues and
latin music, and his new album, Dei Volta,
reflects all these musical genres. However, Tony remains faithful
to his roots and this latest work is a veritable testament to
the many musical talents of Tony Camara
