What is History?
A question that undoubtedly calls for a difficult and complex
answer. Nonetheless, we will attempt to put its conceptual content
into simple terms.
History is, in short, Man's attempt to register his evolutionary
sojourn on planet Earth since his origins down to the present
day, where human historicity is adhering to Universal parameters.
History is brought down from generation to generation in the form
of the multiple linguistic codes and symbology available to Man
and is relative to his time and spatial co-ordinates and context.
The contemporary concept of History has generally distanced itself
from a perspective of mere factuality, inherited from the restrictive
determinism that prevailed in the Age of Lights, and has headed
towards a global understanding of events, their causes and consequences
in Man's successive socio - organizational forms, behavioral patterns
and migratory tendencies. As the passing of Mankind on the planet
is registered by its existence and achievements in their entirety,
and being History a study thereof, it had to develop in the light
of Transdisciplinarity. We should not forget, however, that a
historian is but a mere narrator or story teller, who, because
of his or her uniqueness, will always employ the filter of subjective
reasoning and logic when sifting through the data in his or her
possession.
The study of History, like any other field of human research,
requires an inquisitive nature and it is in this spirit that,
targeting an interactive space, we request all those who visit
this site for their most valid and valuable contribution!
" History as a fundamental science amongst social and
human sciences aims to master the past by the awareness of an
age through the material presence of Man's accomplishments and
understanding of its economic, social, political, cultural and
other structures, all of which interrelated."
José Manuel Garcia
