Estimados convidados, é com muito honra que lhes dou as boas vindas a este
nosso II Aniversário da Adiaspora.com, que traz
para junto de nós um grupo de ilustres individualidades dos
círculos académicos portugueses, luso-americano e canadiano,
os quais se dignaram agraciar este evento com a sua presença
e o seu saber.
Ladies and gentleman, it is with great honour that we welcome you today to the II Adiaspora.com Anniversary that brings to our midst a group of illustrious personalities from Portuguese, Luso-American and Canadian circles who have agreed to grace this event with their presence and knowledge.
O reino do sonho, do onírico, do imaginário é sempre mais amplo, mais abarcante do que a realidade física que vivenciamos. Mas é este o berço de todo o empreendimento humano e a força criativa e impulsionadora da nossa evolução individual e social. É do nexo destas duas faces da vida, deste ponto de encontro das realidades espiritual e física que constituem a Tela onde se traçam os percursos de vida, que brotam as acções que visionamos para nós e para toda a Humanidade.
Dizem os velhos sábios que é através do sonho que os anjos nos sussurram ao
ouvido, inspirando-nos com as ideias e os ideais que o Divino
vislumbra para o Mundo. O vetusto Albert Einstein, cujo génio
abriu para a modernidade novas fronteiras da ciência, dizia
que cada vez que uma teoria ou um conceito se fazia luz na sua
mente, era a voz do Velho (Deus) que estava a ouvir.
Then what were the dreams of Prince Henry and our ancestral navigators when asleep in their beds in days of old? Surely, liquefied dreams of sea and world. And the dreams of our parents and grandparents? Dreams of a better life filled with plenty and progress for their progeny. In childhood, we look around us and see that we have not yet attained the promise of our adult future where the dream of becoming a fireman, statesman, engineer or doctor will become a tangible and viable reality. We have all inherited from our human condition the desire to look to distant horizons and place ourselves there, in the future, as if the present. Dreams and the realities to which we transpose them are inseparable and conjoined vectors of the greater dynamics of existence. Assim, pelo sonho das sereias do infinito espelhado nas ondas do mar,
partimos todos, deixando para trás o aconchego e a segurança do lar paterno,
para partes desconhecidas da vida onde transplantamos os traços indeléveis dos
sonhos que transportamos. São estes a rota do nosso caminhar, do nosso trilhar
pelos vales profundos da mágoa e sofrimento e pastos verdejantes dos nossos
sucessos. E assim nos encontramos aqui, neste belo Planeta Azul, irmanados pelo o
Espírito do sonho feito Homem personificado, no nosso meio no dia de hoje, em
que celebramos o II Aniversário da Adiaspora.com, pelos nossos ilustres
convidados que lograram realizar o seu potencial, o seu sonho, nos vários ramos
de actividade em que são intervenientes. Today, our community, itself child of a dream of Emigration, can be proud of many of us who have managed to reach the goals we set out for ourselves, stemming not only from our personal ambitions but also from the many Portuguese visionaries who prophesied that Portugal would fulfil itself abroad through its Diaspora or exodus of its people. Presently, our communities throughout the world house many stories of success, as well as failure, but failure surpassed and sublimated in the positivism of progress and development that today mark Portugal and its communities. Individuals, some of them children of Portugal and the Diaspora, such as our guest speakers Senator Dan da Ponte, Representative Antonio Cabral, Prof. Elvino Sousa, Prof. Vamberto Freitas, Ilda Januário, Manuel Azevedo, Humberta Araújo, Luís Morgadinho, Dr. Carlos Cordeiro, José Mário Coelho and Prof. Luís Aguilar are living examples of this new Lusitanian reality. O projecto Adiaspora.com principiou como o sonho ambicioso e audaz
de abrir uma janela para o mundo mostrando o que de melhor em
nós há; de construir pontes sobre mar e ar entre os diversos
e diversificados pólos de lusitanidade espalhadas aos quatro
ventos pelo globo; de difundir e enaltecer o que nos identifica
como povo. Desde a sua fundação em 14 de Novembro de 2001 até
à presente data, o nosso portal já registou para cima de 1 085
000 visitantes, prova visível de que o espírito lusitano encontra-se
bem vivo no mundo e que as nossas gentes não olvidam as
suas raízes. Temos o prazer de, ao fim de dois anos de vida, podermos constatar que a
nossa imagem e voz se fez ver e ouvir nas muitas páginas que colocamos em
linha, que conseguimos de facto abrir essa janela para o mundo, e contribuir,
em alguma medida, para uma maior visibilidade da Diáspora portuguesa no mosaico
mundial. There are those who, not being Portuguese or having Portuguese roots, have by their open-mindedness, stance in life and defence of our people, come to be one of us. These are souls who carry within them and disseminate the Lusitanian spirit in their works. Today we are honoured to have with us Prof. Jean Barman from Vancouver who in her books has brought part of our history as immigrants to the greater anglophone society. She is Lusitanian without a doubt! Yet another intrepid and valiant spirit has come to be included in the extensive roll of Portuguese heroes. Captain Robert Piché, the Canadian commercial aviation pilot who on August 24, 2001 and in the face of great adversity guided his aeroplane to safe haven at the Lajes Airport, in the Azores, just as the brave sea pilots of old guided their ships, leaving in their wake the perils and seas monsters of the Era of the Discoveries. Captain Piché in this feat managed to save the lives of many of our own people who aboard that Airbus dreamed of reaching the homeland once again. What dream drove him on that almost fatal day during that transatlantic flight? Reaching terra firma and bringing his passengers and crew to safety, made possible by his skill courage and indomitable spirit! Today the Portuguese nation and its communities render homage to Capt. Piché, embracing him as one of our own, calling him unto us so that he too may, alongside the many sea pilots of the seas of old, figure among the heroes in the annals of our history. Captain Piché, it is indeed an honour to have you with us today! Dreams fulfilled and many more to yet fulfil!
